The Department of Civil Engineering offers post-graduate degree programmes leading to Master of Engineering (M.Eng. Civil) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. Civil) with specialization in the following areas:
a) Geotechnical Engineering and Foundations
b) Structural Engineering and Materials
c) Transportation Engineering and Highway Materials
d) Water Resources and Environmental Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering also offers a post-graduate degree programme leading to Master of Science (M.Sc.) with specialization in the following areas:
e) Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)

The curriculum encompasses classwork, term papers, assignments, laboratory practicals, technical report writing and presentations, research projects, and periodical visitation to buildings, roads and other relevant construction sites within and outside the institution. These activities tend to provide students with the requisite hands-on experience to consolidate class teachings and exposure to real-world applications.
The students’ research covers the four focused areas of sub-disciplines; Structural materials, highway materials, water resources, and environmental, and geotechnical engineering. Research topics are selected in the areas of sustainable construction materials, environmental impact assessment, life cycle assessment, supplementary cementitious materials, pozzolanic materials from agricultural and industrial wastes, traffic management systems, traffic flow optimization, soil stabilization, artificial intelligence, and computer vision, among others.
